Frequently Asked Questions
What issues do you specialize in?
I work with a wide range of adolescent and young adult clients, but I specialize in supporting boys and young men struggling with: anxiety, mood disorders, ADHD, anger management, sports performance, conflict with parents, life transitions, low motivation, substance use and relationship challenges.
How do I get started or schedule a session?
Please reach out through the contact form on this website, send me an email, or call to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation. During this initial conversation we will discuss presenting issues as well as client goals and I will answer any questions that you may have. At the end of this conversation, if you’d like to move forward with services, you will be given access to my online scheduler, where you can schedule the initial session at your convenience. The initial 2-3 sessions serve as the assessment phase of the treatment process, where we begin to build the therapeutic relationship, explore client history and symptoms and cultivating treatment goals.
How long are therapy sessions and how often would we meet?
All therapy sessions last 50 minutes. In general, clients start with weekly sessions but over time, the frequency can downshift depending on your needs, progress, and preferences. We’ll work together to create a schedule that supports your goals.
Do you accept insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider, which means I do not participate directly with any insurance companies. However, I will provide you with an itemized monthly bill, that you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. Depending on your current health insurance provider or employee benefit plan, it is possible for services to be covered in full or in part. I recommend checking with your provider about out-of-network mental health benefits and asking the following questions:
Does my health insurance plan include mental health benefits?
Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it, and have I met it yet?
Does my plan limit how many sessions per calendar year I can have? If so, what is the limit?
Do I need written approval from my primary care physician for services to be covered?
How could therapy help?
Research has shown that supportive psychotherapy can benefit us in the following ways: Developing greater self-awareness and understanding of your true values and goals, Building self-esteem and self-confidence, Improving ones ability to understand and tolerate strong emotions, Developing new ways to cope with stress and anxiety, Improved social and relationship skills, Finding support in making difficult decisions or resolving conflict, Coping with trauma, grief, and loss & Navigating life transitions. Remember - you don’t have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. If you’re curious about how therapy might help, the best first step is to schedule a consultation to discuss your needs and goals.
How long might treatment last?
It is difficult to estimate how long you will need to come to counseling. Sometimes a straightforward behavioral concern can be resolved in 8-10 weeks, but more often than not, that seemingly straightforward concern is linked to more complicated issues that warrants deeper exploration. I will continue to check in with you about your progress, in hopes of coming to a mutual agreement about the best time to terminate services. My ultimate goal is for you to feel confident in your ability to move forward, independent of our sessions, though I often have clients who choose to continue in therapy on a biweekly or monthly basis for “maintenance” even after more acute concerns are resolved.
What are your rates and how will I make payments?
Please contact me for information on rates - as fees vary per service and per clinician. I accept all major credit cards as forms of payment via the HIPAA compliant platform Squarespace Payments. Payment will be due at time of service.
Do you offer In-Person and/or Virtual Sessions?
Yes, we offer both virtual (telehealth) and in-person sessions! I'm happy to work with you to determine what format best fits your needs, comfort, and lifestyle. Some clients prefer the flexibility and convenience of online sessions, while others value the experience of in-person connection. Many clients choose a blended approach depending on their schedule or circumstances.
